ok so i think i have a problem that a lot of other people have
how to get preety permalinks when wordpress is hosted on iis
now i have ionics isapi rewrite installed
what do i do to the ini file to achieve this?

blog post links at the moment look like this

i want them to look like this  http://www.852realestate.com/propertynews/index.php/2008/08/iphone-hits-hong-kong-852realestatecom-first-with-news/

that is a link with permalinks setup in wordpress as    /index.php/%year%/%monthnum%/%postname%/

the link goes nowhere that is       error page not found at the moment
what rewrite rule to i put in the ini file to make this work and get the rest of my site at www.852realestate.come not be covered by the rewrite rule
ie only blog pages wrritten

hope this makes sense
any gurus out there to enlighten us feeble brained bloggers

many thanks for anyone solving this

Sounds like a common enough scenario.

But. you have posed, for me, an unsolvable puzzle.
The link you have now is p=71
and the link you want has a year, month,. and day, and a long english title.
How would I map between 71 and the rest of that stuff?  I have no idea.
I'll bet there is a better way to do it, but I don't know wordpress, so I can't provide any insight there.

Also, you said you only wanted to rewrite the blog pages, and leave the other pages alone.
I don't know what "other pages"  on your site look like,  so I don't know how to filter them out.

I can suggest the testdriver.exe program - check the examples and try out your own rules.  You may be able to catch on to what is required.

ok i didnt explain that very well
wordpress permalinks default is like this
so i want to wrewrite

variables year monthnum and postid filled in by wordpress
and postid = xx

do you see what i mean if you solve this you will make wordpress bloggers very happy!! those of us on windows iis servers anyway

thank you for a brilliant piece of software now i just need it to work
and yes i dont know anything bout regex

you said you wanted your URLs to look like this:

and that you want to rewrite them to this on the server side: http://www.852realestate.com/propertynews/?p=71

That is all very good, except I don't see anything that looks like a 71 in the first URL. That is what I meant when I wrote How would I map between 71 and the rest of that stuff? I have no idea.

I get the idea of what you want, but I seem to be missing a magic step somewhere. is the postid something like 71? or is it something like iphone-hits-hong-kong-852realestatecom-first-with-news. ?
