The description for Event ID (1) in Source (Ionic Isapi Rewriting Filter) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote comuter......The following information is part of the event: IIRF: event ID 1, Invalid Parameter; expression((null)) func((null)) file((null)) line(0).
This is the error im getting in the applicaton section of my even viewer.  Ive gotten a couple hundred in the past 2 hours and they all say the same thing.  The rewriting is working fine though.

Obviously a problem in IIRF.

What version are you using? In current versions the events are more descriptive. Also there are fewer problems that generate event messages.

Galen, can you try the IIRF.dll build attached to this workitem:

Are others having this problem?  I have exact same error, using the IIRF.dll build Cheeso suggested above.

Dave, don't use the IIRF.dll in that workitem.

Use the latest v2.1, and you'll get better diagnostic information in the IIRF log and in the Event log.

Tried the v2.1 beta.  MSI failed - said, 'missing script' (on MS Server 2003).  Manually configured (for multiple sites) and it again appears to work just fine, but I still get about 5 warnings per minute in the App Event Viewer, same error message as above....

I am using latest stable build also 2.0.1.15 and am seeing tons of these same application event errors (setup is Win 2K3 Server X64 with IIS6 I believe in 32-bit mode)

Firstly, thanks for IIRF, it's a very useful bit of software.

I just implemented it on our production server and I am seeing a bunch of these same errors:

Event Type:	Warning
Event Source:	Ionic Isapi Rewriting Filter
Event Category:	None
Event ID:	1
Date: 1/7/2010
Time: 2:39:29 AM
User: N/A
Computer:	XXXXXX
Description:
The description for Event ID ( 1 ) in Source ( Ionic Isapi Rewriting
Filter ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the
necessary registry information or message DLL files to display
messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the
/AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support
for details. The following information is part of the event: IIRF: event
ID 1, Invalid Parameter: expression((null)) func((null)) file((null))
line(0).

I looked in the IIRF log file but there is nothing relevant there (the only warning is about a line in the config file that starts with a #:

ReadSiteConfig: WARNING: line 1: unrecognized directive, ignoring it: '#'

This is running on Windows 2003 Server (SP2) with IIS6. Interestingly, our dev machine (which runs the same software) isn't showing any of these errors. I am wondering if it is a response to some sort of malformed request that is coming across the internet?

Let me know if there is any more information I can provide to help get to the bottom of this,

Thanks!

Sorry - forgot to mention this is with 2.0.1.15 which seems to be the most recent release of IIRF.

I'm having the exact same problem here. Getting errors in my app logs.

Windows 2003 Server (SP2) with IIS6

IIRF 2.0.1.15

Have a blank global ini and a iirf ini with several rules - no iirf log is written that I can see

Thanks!

I'm still seeing this issue which causes IIS to crash, I made a work-around by using a batch file that runs every minute to detect the state of IIS and automatically restarts IIS when IIS is down.

Using IIRF.dll 2.0.1.1013

What should the security group assignments be for this file?

Currently I have the following security groups:

Administrators (Full Control)

Power Users (Modify)

SYSTEM (Full Control)

Users (Read and Execute)
