You probably mean this...

A user enters the following URL: www.codeplex.com/111.htm

and you want it processed by: www.codeplex.com/list.asp?id=111

The rule would look something like this:

RewriteRule ^/(\d+).htm$ /list.asp?id=$1

I'm assuming that you'll always have digits for the ID.

Your best bet is to read the manual, it really does spell a majority of things out. And bone-up on your Regular Expressions; I use Expresso (freeware RegEx builder and tester).
